Sea Hives are designed and manufactured in the UK, from recycled fishing nets and bottles to create hexagonal tubes using moulds and production facilities in England and Wales. When several tubes are joined together, they resemble a honeycomb shape.
These hives help to restore the aquatic environment by providing hard and durable surfaces for aquatic plants and animals to colonise, and a variety of robust habitats for fish and invertebrates to occupy.
SeaHives increase the variety and quantity of habitats in and around large man-made structures including breakwaters, jetties and piers, especially where de-commissioned rigs are retained as artificial reefs. SeaHives are designed to be suspended into the water without the need for additional strengthening or support.
In May 2025, we supported a local marina – Mayflower Marina – by sponsoring a Sea Hive, and we hope to do this all over Cornwall.
If you would like to support Our Only World and other organisations by sponsoring the installation of Sea Hives, please get into contact with us today.
