3,000 miles of ocean stand between Lara Vafiadis and her goal of rowing the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge. In just a matter of weeks, Vafiadis will set off on this epic voyage alongside 30 other teams from San Sebastián over to Antigua and Barbuda. Our Only World is extremely proud to be one of the three charities Lara is raising money for and you can donate to the cause here.
This is an extraordinary challenge to undertake, and one she’s taken on in honour of her late father. Having watched him go through rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Lara took inspiration from her father’s determination and resilience. She’s rowing not only for him, but also herself, to prove that she can do anything she puts her mind to.
Lara will be rowing under the name ‘This Girl Rows’ and will be taking part as a solo entrant. She will be one of six solo rowers taking on the Atlantic, alongside other larger boats of up to five rowers. As the start date of the 12th December draws closer, Lara needs all the support she can get.
This challenge is so tough that more people have climbed Everest than completed it. The sheer courage and bravery to commit to The Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge is an inspiration to all of us. Join us in supporting Lara by donating to her cause and cheering her on.
