POLICY AND PROCEDURES

Policy Statement (adopted 1/8/18 )

Our Only World recognises that, when working with children, young people and adults, it
is the individual’s welfare that is paramount, and our over-riding aim is to conduct our
activities in a way which will keep them safe from harm and exploitation and uphold their
rights.
In the legal context Our Only World will uphold the rights of everyone as
prescribed in the following acts of parliament: Human Rights Act 1989, Children’s
Acts 1989 & 2004, Human Rights Act 1998, Education Act 2002, Mental Capacity
Act 2005, Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006, Equality Act 2010, the
Care Act 2014, Modern Slavery Act 2015, Counter-Terrorism & Security Act 2015

We recognise that:

  • The welfare of the child is paramount ( Children’s Act 1989)
  • All children regardless of age, sex, disability, gender reassignment, race religion, belief or sexual orientation
  • Some children are additionally vulnerable because of the impact of previous
    experiences.
  • Working in partnership with children, young people, their parents , carers and
other agencies is essential in promoting young people’s welfare

We will seek to keep children and young people safe by:

  • Valuing them, respecting and listening to them
  • Appointing a Designated Safeguarding officer (DSO) for children and young
    people.
  • Adopting child protection and safeguarding practices through procedures
  • Recording and storing information professionally and securely.
  • Ensuring that we provide a safe physical environment for our children and young
people by applying health and safety measures in accordance with the law and
    regulatory guidance.
